Rose Motif sterling silver bowl with gold plating

CHRISTOPHER NIGEL LAWRENCE STERLING SILVER Rose BOWL WITH GOLD PLATING

A bowl like this is not something you see everyday. Made of solid sterling silver it was very substantial. The amazing contrast of textures truly made this a work of art and a challenge to polish. I was careful to preserve the textures. As you can see in the “before photos,” there was significant tarnish that needed to be removed.

The lid had an ornate cast textured rose and twig motif with gold plating. Gold does not tarnish as quickly as silver but this piece hadn’t been polished for at least 10 years. You can see what a difference the polishing made in the side-by-side before and after photos.

In this case, I did not polish the textures with buff. Instead, I took a very conservative approach to remove the tarnish yet keep the signature texture of the Christopher Nigel Lawrence Rose Bowl.

The inside of the bowl was gold plated.

There were some discolored spots with slight pitting possibly caused by food that hadn’t been full cleaned. I was able to gently hand polish the inside to preserve the gold plating and improve the appearance of the dark spots.

I provided instructions to the customer for future care so they could maintain the restored appearance.
